This wear occurs at the interaction between clutch stack and drum. Unlike the steel drum found in your earlier model Allison, the 10L1000 uses a lightweight aluminum drum. As the truck ages the steels of the clutch stack begin to wear away at the channels that hold them, this wear eventually leads to incomplete shifts or range tie ups. Currently, due to lack of aftermarket options, the most widely accepted repair is to replace the drum with a new OEM drum. Until now.
